We took STRIKE Down Barriers to Health Care! online for the second year in a row and this year was bigger and better than ever. The event was made possible by the diligent efforts of our event committee, technical expertise of #SeattleLives and the robust support of our sponsors. With support from all our sponsors and individual donors, we raised $109,473. These funds will allow us to provide care to over 320 Washingtonians such as Kaddy Kebbeh and Jean McKinnon, who both received vital care through Project Access Northwest and shared their story during the event.
Bender, the morning host of 95.7 the Jet returned to host the livestreamed event, which included live and recorded segments, for the third year in a row. We were also honored to receive remarks from Senator and Deputy Majority Leader Manka Dhingra, of the 45th legislative district and Representative Nicole Macri, representing the 43rd legislative district, who are both committed to expanding access to health care to all Washingtonians.
Our board chair, Terri Rambosek, who works tirelessly to lift up Project Access Northwest helped recognize all 28 of our esteemed sponsors.
Leanne Berge, our previous Andrea Castell Access to Health Care Award winner announced our 2021 Andrea Castell Access to Health Care Award recipient, Cassie Sauer, President and CEO of Washington State Hospital Association (WSHA). Cassie received the award for her tireless work to navigate the COVID pandemic on behalf of and in partnership with hospitals and health care agencies across the state. Congratulations, Cassie and thank you for all of your amazing work!
While we continue to face many challenges in our health care system and across our country, we are inspired by the perseverance and resilience of our communities and front-line workers. We are filled with gratitude for our dedicated staff and mission-driven board of directors, and we look forward to what we can achieve together in the upcoming year.
