State of the Union 2023

A message from Executive Director Gary Renville

Core Programs

Innovative programs, new specialties

Care Coordination

Care Coordination

Our care coordinators scheduled thousands of appointments despite the effects of the pandemic, including longer wait times and staff shortages in clinics. We ensured critical needs were met, worked to educate our patients on resources available to them, helped them navigate a rapidly changing health care environment and ensured that our most vulnerable weren’t slipping through the cracks.

Premium Assistance

Premium Assistance

With the support of key funders, we were able to purchase health insurance on the Exchange for 48 members in 51 households — ensuring that patients have access to appropriate health care before their medical need results in an emergency department visit or a more extensive problem.

Dental Clearance

Dental Clearance

In partnership with Northwest Kidney Centers, we provide dentures and dental clearances for patients in need. More than 100 patients have been cleared for and received a kidney transplant. We also partner with DentistLink, a program of the Arcora Foundation, to provide limited funding for patients in need.

Behavioral Health

Behavioral Health

We continued the process of adding behavioral health to our list of specialties. We are partnering with other pro-bono behavioral health projects throughout the nation and continue to seek sustainable funding in order to build a sustainable model that helps address the significant need for mental health care resources in this region.

Strike Down Barriers to Health Care

Our fifth annual fundraising event raised over $130,000.

After two years of striking down barriers to health care virtually, we were thrilled to host our fifth annual Strike Down Barriers fundraiser in person. With support from all our sponsors and individual donors, we met our goal and raised over $130,000! All funds raised support our care coordination program.

Our good friend Bender returned for his fourth year as emcee of the event. He welcomed our guests and acknowledged the energy that was in the room. We had the honor of hearing from Dr. Jennifer Chin, former Project Access Northwest employee and now OB/GYM with UW Medicine. She shared experiences from her work as a care coordinator to her current role with UW Medicine. Alaska Airlines provided two round trip airfare tickets to our raffle. And Debbie Jefferson, who recently retired from her impressive nursing career at EvergreenHealth, was awarded our Andrea Castell Access to Health Care Award, which recognizes an individual who works to improve health care access for all members of our community.
