Behind the scenes at our STRIKE Down Barriers to Health Care! event
This year, we took STRIKE Down Barriers to Health Care! online, thanks to the creative efforts of our event committee, technical expertise from #SeattleLives and the unwavering support of our sponsors. I’d like to extend a special thank you to our Perfect Game sponsor, The Polyclinic, and our King Pin sponsor, Kaiser Permanente, for leading the way. With support from all our sponsors and individual donors, we raised $94,100.
Bender kicked off the livestream event, which featured live and recorded segments, including a welcome from board president Terri Rambosek, the inspirational story of Premium Assistance clients Mary and Raymond Clark, and a message from Tracy Corgiat of The Polyclinic. We also presented our Andrea Castell Access to Health Care Award to Community Health Plan of Washington CEO Leanne Berge. Congratulations, Leanne!
While this year has been filled with many challenges, I also have seen remarkable resilience. People of goodwill are collaborating, overcoming challenges, and caring for those most adversely affected. I am inspired by our hard-working staff and mission-driven board of directors, and I remain hopeful for what we can accomplish together.
More than ever, we must reach those in need and provide a bridge to stability
(excerpts from my address that night)
As we prepared for this evening, our health crisis with COVID-19 was compounded by the racial injustices seen across our country, which demonstrates yet again the disparity in how we treat the lives, safety, and security of African-Americans. Black lives matter, and these [crises] adversely impact the social determinants of health of our fellow human beings.
It’s hard to take all of the losses we have seen just in 2020—from those already mentioned to the devastating fires and hurricanes ravaging our country to the passing of an icon in Ruth Bader Ginsberg… the list seems to go on and on.
But these are the times when Project Access Northwest is called on to rally our community and shine our best so that we can ensure that those most in need have a bridge from their fear, depression and isolation, to health care stability.
There is still time to give!
If you haven’t had a chance to make your donations, please check out panw.ejoinme.org. There, you can view the event and show your support for our work. Your support can change lives.
